Byzantine Museum of Naxos

The Byzantine Museum of Naxos is housed in a tower of the Castle, near the northwest gate. This is the only surviving tower out of the twelve that supposedly existed. The coats of arms of Barotsi and Krispi are the reminders of two of the owners of the castle. The last owners were the family of P. Glezos who also donated the Castle to the Greek state.

Nowadays the tower is fully restored and functions as a Byzantine museum and hosts an important Byzantine sculptures collection from Naxos and the Cyclades from the 7th to the 12th century. It also offers information on the Byzantine monuments of Naxos and other islands.
